Project Overview
Kitchwa is a proposal for modular kitchen furniture that adapts to the space and needs of its occupants. Each module specializes and divides into washing, cooking, preparation and cutting zones. It expands and contracts, allowing for greater capacity and occupying minimal space when not in use. This aims to address the needs of the Barrio Guabal community for their development and cultural center, which requires constant activity changes for optimal space utilization.
The project also required an economical and easily accessible solution, leading to the proposal of a construction model using readily available reused materials such as pallets, taking into account the community's skills and activities
Design challenge
The project centers on Ciudad Bolívar, particularly the El Guabal neighborhood, inhabited by indigenous, peasant, and Afro-descendant groups displaced by violence. Many residents, employed in construction, have independently constructed their homes using recycled materials. Challenges faced by some mothers in the community include limited education and barriers to accessing training due to the neighborhood's isolation and transportation expenses.
Inspired by these challenges, the concept emerges to utilize the kitchen as a productive environment where mothers and those interested in leveraging gastronomy for income can undergo training and launch gastronomic initiatives. Consequently, the project seeks to address the following identified issues:
Affordable and Versatile Kitchen Furniture:
The community seeks cost-effective kitchen furniture adaptable for diverse activities, such as social events and culinary training, easy to assemble, and suitable for communal and residential use.
Access to Education and Training:
El Guabal needs a dedicated space for vocational training, empowering individuals, especially mothers, to improve their employability and quality of life.
Goal
Develop kitchen furniture that adapts to the various activities planned by the community in their community center, capable of supporting social events, productive activities, and gastronomic training processes, without compromising its potential use in private residences.
